Knitting Projects

Now that gardening has finished, the knitting can begin! I've got 2 I'm working on right now. The blue-green is a small shawl just like one I made for myself last year:

I keep this in the kitchen - it's great to throw over my shoulders in the morning while I'm drinking my coffee & reading the newspaper. It's just the plain dishcloth pattern (cast on 4 stitches, 1st row: knit 2, yarn over, knit to end of row) - just keep doing this until it's as big as you'd like. About the same time I was trying this, Jewels over at Eyes of Wonder (well, her daughter Rosie, actually) came up with a pattern for the very same thing. I used Bernat Homespun yarn; she used regular worsted. I actually finished this one last night while trying to stay up for the Saturday Night Live Election Eve show.

Oh, and I used size 10 needles, switching to a circular needle when the number of stitches became too much for straight needles. I have another one to get going for Christmas giving.

The second project is something I've been wanting to do for a few winters now; I have Rhonda at Down-to-Earth to thank for this pattern. The backs of my hands get very chilled and I've thought that fingerless gloves would be ideal. These are more fingerless mittens than gloves and therefor much easier. I've almost finished the second one.

I should be able to finish this up tonight - going to be watching a bit o' election coverage this evening. They'll be ready for wearing at work tomorrow - just in time, too - the weather is turning cold, with a possibility of snow later this week.

CORRECTION on the pattern for these particular mitts: the URL above doesn't show these exact mitts - while "researching" those, I found these at A Friend to Knit With (an absolutely lovely blog!) But the pattern is a PDF file listed in her sidebar; their called "those mitts". I don't know if I can link to them or not - I'll give it a try... nope, don't know how to do it.
