This is what the herb garden looked like yesterday as I started to clear it off. Mugwort on the left, sage next to it. The little bit of red in front of the mugwort is the sorrel peaking through. Needs to be a bit bigger before I can harvest any. I trimmed the mugwort back to the ground. Uncovered the valerian, too. Then had to get out some small border fence to protect it from the cats. They love it when it's first popping up! Would love it to DEATH, if I let them...

The chives are coming up nicely. The feverfew is on the right, just barely visible. You can't see it in the photo, but the horehound is coming back nicely. It's the bunch of long stems just to the right of center; I trimmed it back as well.
I planted some onion sets in a half barrel, along with some saved radish and lettuce seeds from last year. Covered it with plastic removed from southern exposure windows. Also planted some Walla Walla onion plants in a clay pot & in a bare spot in the herb garden.

Finally started some seeds indoors - I usually don't have much luck with this, so I've waited - maybe I'll be able to get them in the ground before they get too gangly. I saved some egg shell halves to use inside the egg cartons. I planted broccoli, cauliflower, and green cabbage because they're early, cool weather crops. But, in a moment of weakness, I also planted some celery and tomatillos. (sigh) We'll see how it goes...
Supposed to be 66 here today - YAY! But, by the weekend, more rain with a possiblity of snow. However, the end is in sight...!
p.s. I also stopped into the Feed and Farm Store last Friday (in the midst of snow/rain flurries) to pick up some yellow onion sets and white seed potatoes, Kennebec, I think...

Sounds like your garden is going well--and that you know more about a lot of different plants that I'm not really familiar with--amazing what you find out that you don't know... :) Hope your indoor seeds take off--great post!
Thanks, Marie, but I'm just getting started. No actual planting in the main garden going on yet. I do have lots of herbs, but I don't use them as well/much as I'd like. That is one of my goals: to learn the uses of all the things growing in my yard.
