One view of the herb garden
Again, this is 2 weeks worth of activities (from what I can remember) -
Planted: All tomato plants, grapes, basil plant, jalapeno pepper plants, sage plant, and, finally, the cukes started from seed; rhubarb plants
Harvested: more rhubarb, mint, lemon balm, (volunteer) leaf lettuce, chives, sorrel, basil leaves, 2 green onions, oregano
Preserved: 2 batches of rhubarb jam, rhubarb for the freezer, lemon balm for drying. Experiments: basil salt, basil olive oil
Prepped: bought some canning jars & more lids; whole chickens, on sale - cut-up & frozen
Cooked: Sadge's bread with different combinations of whole wheat & unbleached white flour; salad from volunteer lettuce, basil, sorrel, chives, green onion. Experiment: spaghetti sauce w/ chives, green onion, basil, oregano, sorrel (& canned tomatoes, a little bit of red wine)
Managed: cleaned out jar cupboard (non-canning jars); purchased missing connector-thingy for (used) socket set so I could get the top of the lawn mower; got some bamboo trellis for peas
Local food systems: went w/ daughter to her coworker's home/yard to dig up rhubarb plants - offered some bleeding hearts when I dig them up in the fall; talked with s-i-l about our (differing) views of what we think might happen as a result of the peak oil situation; dug up extra/volunteer raspberries to give to one of my co-workers
Composted/gave back: finished cleaning out original compost pile: spread grass clippings to dry out for use as mulch
Learned new skill/relearned/refreshed old skill: fixed lawn mower myself - took top cover off engine & figured out why it wouldn't start
