Another Challenge from La Crunche'

Keep Yer Cool Challenge
This one I think I can handle. It's the summer equivalent to her Freeze Your Buns! Challenge last winter. I have no air conditioning so turning up the thermostat on it will be no problem , but keeping cool will still be a challenge - and starting this weekend! Our temps are rocketing into the mid-to-high 90s by Sunday.
My side of the duplex stays fairly cool during the day if I close it up in the morning before I leave for work, including closing windows AND shades/blinds. Last evening I installed an outside roll-up blind over th
e back bedroom/south-facing window. Will do the same with the dining area (also south-facing) tonight.

When it gets really bad - close to or over 100, later in July & August, I'll leave a small fan on the floor turning low for air circulation for the kitties. They like to lay on the floor in front of it. And at night, when it cools off, I put fans in the windows to pull in the cool air.

My last house had a basement which helped tremendously with keeping it cool. Not here, and the garage gets very hot & stuffy during the day, so I keep the door between house & garage closed.
I don't have any big trees in my yard, only tall pines around in other yards. They offer some shade in the late afternoon to the back yard, but not to the house. With my son-in-law's help, I installed a privacy fence that may add some shade to the back. Actually, it was more 'with my help, my son-in-law installed...'
