Independence Days Update

This week's report will be quite short. The weather was not conducive to gardening: too much rain - even some snow! Luckily, I myself did not actually SEE any of the latter and I'm glad - I would have been seriously bummed if I had. Okay, here we go:
Planted: Nada, nothing, zilch, not a thing. Didn't even get out TO the garden until yesterday afternoon (except for a short trip on Sunday after the BD party to pick a few things). The good news is that some of the popcorn is poking up, so it wasn't all drowned.
Harvested: some lettuce & spinach, a few radishes, and a little bit of rhubarb which I made into sauce for the week
Preserved: again, nothing. All the baked goods from last weekend are either consumed or almost there. The soup stock is waiting to be used for homemade cat food.

Prepped: almost nothing until this morning- on my way to work, I stopped by a yard sale & found a large box of various sized canning/storage jars. Bought the whole lot for $5
Cooked: only new thing was the cracker recipe from Kathies's recipe (see previous post) - will be making these again!
Managed: bought some more cotton yarn on sale for storage, plus a set of bamboo double-pointed knitting needles for socks using a 50% coupon
Worked on local food systems: sent an email to the local newspaper editor after reading an article reporting that Sandpoint (a town about 60 miles away) has been named one of only two Transition Towns in the country (Boulder is the other). (Note: the article link & the newspaper link are different because I couldn't find the article online in the Press.)

Composed/Gave back to the land: in the process of shredding paper to use, mixed with compost, for hilling up my potato plants.
Learned new skill/Relearned: the only thing new I worked on this week was purchasing & setting up a digital converter box & finding out I have even less channels than with the indoor antenna - but I don't think that counts for this challenge
Plans: since the weather is getting nicer & warmer (love to see that sun!), I'm going to be taking the chicken wire off the corn, mowing around the garden (or baling, whichever is easier), digging up areas covered by cardboard, and weeding, weeding, weeding!

No garden photos this week, so here are a couple from my grandson's birthday party last Sunday:

Hey now, That does sound like such a bad week. The canning jar score alone is worth a week's worth of whopping! :)
